Grassroots Shakespeare

As a theater family it is really hard not to critic a show or movie. Jon and I have had some really bad experiences this summer with watching plays. We really haven't enjoyed good theatre in such a long time!
Well Jon took me to the Grassroots Shakespeare performance of MacBeth.
It was amazing!!!! They really found the humor in the show, but it was also serious when it needed to be. I loved how they stuck to the original Shakespearean style of performance. They interacted with the audience, used a simple set, the costumes were so fun, but not distracting.
I loved seeing the people I looked up to in High School perform!
The only problem I had with the show was the guy I was standing next to... He would not shut up!!! The cast encouraged the audience to interact with the actors and make comments. Mister you don't have to comment on every line!!! Please don't laugh any more! It's really kinda scary.
Everyone should come and see it!!! The tickets are super cheap, but order them now, before they are sold out!!! grassrootsshakespeare.com

Kristen...

Tonight's the night!

We're so excited you'll be joining us for opening night of MACBETH (our first real Halloween production) at the dreadfully gorgeous Castle Amphitheater.

We have you down for 0 Gallery Ticket(s) and 2 Yard Ticket(s).
  • If you purchased Gallery Seats, we will be providing chairs (no need to bring your own!)
  • If you purchased Yard Tickets, you will officially be a Groundling (very exciting!).

The weather looks great, but you may want to dress warmly (it is an outdoor venue afterall).

Remember, the show starts at 8:00 PM!

If you've never been to the Castle Amphitheatre, it can be a little tricky. Here are a few directions:
  • Drive East (towards the mountains) on Center Street in Provo.
  • When you reach 900 East, continue through the stoplight.
  • When the road starts to curve to the left, you'll see the entrance to the Utah State Hospital on your right.
  • Turn right towards the hospital and drive slowly! (there are quite a few deer that herd here)
  • When you reach the top of the road, turn left at the roundabout
  • Turn right to head behind the main building and you'll see a road creeping up the mountain.
  • Don't go up that road (yet!), it's time to park your car.
  • Head on up the road on foot and in 2 minutes you'll see the gorgeous Castle Amphitheatre.
  • Time for some fun!
Too detailed? Maybe. But we want to see you there!

Fun Fact

The Term "Box Office" originated in Elizabethan theatres.

There were no tickets, but as patrons entered the yard they would deposit a coin into a box with a slot in the top.

To enter the gallery, you would pass another usher with a box and pay another coin.

The room where all these coin boxes were kept after performances came to be known as the "box office".
